For the first nine years of publishing, Speak Up was only available in printed form. We published ninety issues of various sizes, lengths, and formats.
In 2021, partly in response to the Covid shutdowns, we pivoted to digital-only.
We are thrilled to announce that the printed issues are back. Moving forward we intend to publish digital content first and then release a monthly volume of selections from the website.
The first new issue—just released—is a fresh take on the printed magazine:
It’s small. The size of a mobile phone. It fits in your pocket or handbag. It’s easy to share with others. The paper is thick and smooth. It contains just four essays.
We think you’ll like it. A lot.
We are sending a free copy to anyone that wants one. No charge.
Moving forward, print magazines will be included as a paid subscriber benefit.
But this first issue will be sent to anyone who wants a copy—while supplies last.
No strings attached. Click the button to send us your mailing address.
If you are already a paying subscriber, we still need your mailing address.
Please Join the More Speak Up in 2024 fundraising campaign.
This campaign will accomplish two things:
Create a print magazines publishing fund that allows us to produce, print, and ship new printed issues monthly for the next twelve months.
Fund Goal: $13,200
Allow Speak Up to pay higher rates to more writers facing homelessness.
It’s crucial to the mission of Speak Up that we are able to compensate the writers who courageously share their stories. This fund will let us double our rates and volume for the next twelve months.
Fund Goal: $15,600
So glad we have physical zines back! I love mine!
